La serie rievoca l’antica tradizione degli erbari e dei florilegi che, come è noto, contenevano accurate descrizioni e raffigurazioni di piante e fiori, e rispondevano innanzitutto alla necessità di classificare, illustrare e divulgare le conoscenze acquisite da naturalisti e botanici. Ma oltre a ciò, va rimarcato come la sterminata varietà di specie vegetali, dagli aspetti e forme più disparate e insolite, abbia da sempre alimentato anche la curiosità e l’immaginazione di scrittori, pittori e artisti per i quali le invenzioni della natura sono stati uno stimolo a fantasticare e inventare creature mai viste. E’ a quest’ultimo filone che mi sono ispirato nel tentativo di attualizzare e rendere questa forma di raffigurazione meno schematica e didascalica di quello che può sembrare.

But in addition to this, it should be noted how the immense variety of plant species, with the most disparate and unusual aspects and forms, has also always fed the curiosity and imagination of writers, painters and artists for whom the inventions of nature were a stimulus to fantasize and invent creatures never seen before. It is from the latter strand that I have been inspired in an attempt to actualize and make this form of depiction less schematic and didactic than it may seem.
